Pursuing journalists’ job religiously requires indepth investigation and devotion to mission. Making Truth Interesting and Informative to grow the flock. Naomi Klein followed the pack of journalism jackals, only eating what’s killed.
“Uncovering real conspiracies is the indispensable mission of investigative journalism. There’s a firm line between unsupported conspiracy claims and reliable investigative research.”
Klein is an advocate of journalism where “responsible investigators follow a set of shared standards, double and triple sourced, verify leaked documents, cite peer reviewed studies, come clean about uncertainties. Share sections of text with recognized exerts to make sure technical terms and research mentions are correctly understood. Have fact checkers” sign off on it “through prepublication, then hand it all over to a libel lawyer, multiple lawyers in different territories. It’s a slow, expensive, careful process, that gets us as close as we know how to agree that something is ‘true’.”
This corporate news approach is why Free Press researchers working without deep pockets, unearthed every non-narrative fact from the Kennedy Assassinations through 9/11 to the Plandemic.
Josiah Thompson, doggedly researched and minutely reported on forensic evidence from the JFK assassination over decades, both inside and outside the major news publishers. Last Second in Dallas, his 2021 masterpiece, reprises his 1967 classic, Six Seconds in Dallas and findings over decades since. Thompson affirms only independent researchers discovered and reported “true” facts proving a JFK conspiracy, while Klein’s kind regurgitated official lies as if they were.
Naomi K. wrote for The Nation, generously funded by the Ford Foundation, and is contributing editor at The Intercept, a billionaire bought “investigative journal” that sent Reality Winner straight to prison, when another “editor” shared an unedited photo of Reality’s leaked documents with “recognized experts” in military intelligence, (not an oxymoron, that would be an intelligent editor).
I didn’t bother reading Naomi Klein or Wolf’s oevre, or Wikipedia pages about them. Plowing through Klein’s book Doppelganger was enough to draw single sourced inferences about her “journalism career.” It was handed to her on a platter.
In 2004, Klein was “reporting on the Iraq invasion” (not embedded), when a “cache of leaked Carlyle Group communications” ended up in her hot little hands. James Baker III, former secretary of state for President George H. Bush and the first Iraq Invasion, George W. Bush’s Florida election lawyer for Bush v Gore 2000, equity partner and senior counselor of military investment vehicle, was leaning on the Kuwaiti incubator scale.
The Carlyle Group made billions after 9/11. Afghanistan was returned to the Stone Age, (skipping the mud phase), Shocked and Awed Iraq. Baker was allegedly “influencing Kuwait [staging area for invasion and supply chain] to make deals with Carlyle Group, where he was making $180 million in stock/salary.”
Naomi cold called the prime minister of Kuwait to confirm. His undersecretary called back, believing it was Naomi Campbell, international supermodel, member of the international jet set, once given a stash of blood diamonds by Liberian president Charles Taylor at a South African party Nelson Mandela threw. Naomi C. testified as a prosecution witness for the International Criminal Court at Taylor’s war crimes trial.
Klein didn’t object to being conflated with that Naomi, when the flustered Kuwaiti undersecretary clarified his confusion. “I quickly got the verification needed to publish.” That was enough for The Nation. Linking Baker and the Carlyle Group in context with 9/11 Inside Job would have gone beyond the Pale.
“The Carlyle Group is the 11th-largest US defense contractor as a private-equity investment firm. The Carlyle Group had its annual investor conference on 9/10 and 9/11/01 within the beltway of Washington D.C.. Shafig bin Laden, one of dozens of half-brothers of Osama, attended along with ex-president Poppy Bush.
“Lt. General Mahmood Ahmed of the Pakistani Intelligence Agency was meeting with Rep. Porter Goss and Sen. Bob Graham, chairpersons of the House and Senate intelligence committees. These two would later head the congressional Joint Inquiry report on 9/11. General Ahmed was reported in the Indian press to have wired $100,000 to the alleged lead 9/11 hijacker, Mohamed Atta. Porter Goss would later become head of the CIA.”
Naomi K. isn’t interested in who, what, and when details about motives and opportunity. “Ever since those jet liners flew into the glass and steel of the World Trade Center, I’ve been preoccupied with the ways that large -scale shocks scramble our collective synapses, lead to mass regression and make humans easy prey for demagogues.”
She’s a Big Picture Book writer. In 2007, Shock Doctrine; The Rise of Disaster Capitalism spelled out how a “terrified and distracted public” remained docile as their representatives slipped through “power hungry policies that benefited corporate elites without debate or consent, like torturers who use isolation and stress to break their prisoner.”
I returned to newspaper reporting in the 90’s for two decades with the Coastal Post, a free press icon, (reposted on the internet since 1996). Mostly embedded armchair research and conspiracy culture critiquing with no financial rewards. Kept my day or night desk jobs with high speed internet after the millennium warped the web.
Covered 9/11 Truths and Unanswered Questions like a cheap rug until undone by minutiae. Unearthed one tab of the conspiracy puzzle through careful reading of the 9/11 Commission’s curated book. Can’t recall what it was. Klein can’t distinguish between WTC7 and Salomon Brothers Building.
Naomi Klein sneers at us lowly disinterrorists, because “conspiracy influencers perform a theater” of her idealized journalism. Employing the “stylistic conventions” of corporate J street style, with “accuracy guardrails merely low hurdles in the sprint for smoking gun, blockbuster scoops.” Her doppelganger Naomi Wolf is an “impresario of the technique”, after she went off the rails over covid vaxxports.
Their gullible audiences “consume fact based analysis and fact free conspiracy interchangeably, drawing their own connections.” Doing their own research, as shocking as that is to progressive parrotheads. Identifying perpetrators, unearthing evidence for their prior knowledge, involvement and/or coverup, is “a distraction” to the systemic analysis progressive journalists treasure.
Klein’s disdain for 9/11 Truthers dates from their “disruption” of one of her Shock Doctrine book tour readings, unfolding a banner- 9/11 Was an Inside Job. She doesn’t waste any print on their evidence, scolding Truthers, “The real Conspiracy is capitalism.”
Some very interesting insights. Thanks Stephen. I am learning - all is not what is projected.
I’m sure Steven Heilig will be happy to hear that. A good man is hard to find. Or is it, a hard man is good to find? I wouldn’t really know. It’s a lifestyle choice, I guess.
